What do we do?

We're not your typical collective; we're a dynamic, open-ended space for artists to get things out.

What do we offer?

Our collective is threefold; we provide and cultivate the following creative offerings for collective/community engagement…

Our Offerings

Open Submission Projects (50:50)

Firstly, we thrive on curating and presenting others' innovative works and practices, fostering a vibrant and safe atmosphere of artistic expression. If you have a creative work that's yearning to be shared, 938collective is your ‘Incubator.’ We're always on the lookout for fresh, inventive pieces to present, care for, protect, and showcase. Whether it's your artistic masterpiece or a collaboration, we're here to help you make it happen. We like to think of this offering as the 50:50 project (50% us and 50% you).

Space-sharing (0:100)

Secondly, we extend our hand to the community, offering our space for rent, respecting the need for solo work, showcases, workshops, or events. As a new collective, we're constantly looking to create opportunities and provide space for the artistic community. Nestled in the heart of Gowanus, surrounded by historic studio spaces, we provide a nurturing ‘Space-sharing’ environment for artists to craft, organize, perform, and host their works at our studio. Space is available for rent on a first come, first serve basis at $20/hour. For more information or long-term rental inquiries, please contact us at 938collective@gmail.com. This offering is 100% yours; our role is to provide the space.

Lastly, we're equally passionate about producing our own projects and programming. When inspiration strikes; our dedicated production team is bringing their own projects to life.

Firstly, we thrive on curating and presenting others' innovative works and practices, fostering a vibrant and safe atmosphere of artistic expression. If you have a creative work that's yearning to be shared with the world, 938collective is your ‘Incubator.’ We're always on the lookout for fresh, inventive pieces to present, care for, protect, and showcase. We invite artists of all identities, abilities, backgrounds, and locations to submit to our open submissions as long as creatives can collaborate in person, virtually, or asynchronously. If our team vibes with the guiding themes of your work, and if we vibe and resonate with you as a holistic creative, we WANT to provide the space, allocate resources, practice guidance, build promotional materials, and offer our experience to help you get your work heard or viewed or workshopped or touched or felt, whatever your craft.

Historically, this offering has been fulfilled in the following ways and models:

  • Reading Workshops

  • Invited Audience Staged Readings

  • New Short Play Development and Productions

  • Movement Workshops

We also offer frequent Festivals, providing a broader platform for creatives to collaborate our team and with others in their communities. Artists can contribute by submitting their plays or films for future festivals, having them showcased and platformed. These festivals become a vibrant hub for artistic expression, connecting talents from various backgrounds and giving work the spotlight it deserves:

  • Short Play Festival (SPF April 2023)

  • Short Film Festival (SFF October 2023)
